Why should I Read the Christmas Story Verses Daily?

1. Reading The Christmas Story Daily Can Keep Us Focused On What Really Matters In Life

Daily life can clog our minds until we feel foggy and distant from our Lord!

But a daily habit of turning to the Scriptures will help keep our hearts focused on our Savior.

Reading Bible verses daily reestablishes our focus, washes our soul, and revives our hope.

2. A Daily Christmas Reading Plan Keeps Our Heart Open To The Miraculous In Daily Life

When we read about the miraculous birth of Jesus and all the surrounding events, the Word strengthens our faith in God for the miraculous in our own lives.

We can believe for Christmas miracles and expect God to come into our daily life just as He came into the lives of ordinary people long ago.

3. Christmas Readings Open Our Heart To More of Jesus’ Working In Our Lives

When we read the Christmas verses daily, we begin to exercise opening our hearts to receive the greatest gift the world has ever known.

For example, I went to the chiropractor today, and she said my neck and hips were a bit stiff, but with a bit of exercise they would loosen right up.

What is true in the physical is also true in the Spiritual.

When we pay attention to exercising our human spirit in the Word, our hearts loosen and open more and more to Christ’s work in our lives.

We open our hearts to Jesus working more and more in our lives!

4. Reading Daily Helps Us To Grow In Awareness Of His Presence

When we read the Scriptures with an open and expecting attitude, it has a way of touching the depths of our hearts in a way like no other.

Jesus is the Word. He is the Spirit of the written Biblical words.

He is waiting for us to open our hearts to Him.

In this way, we can become more aware of, not only His history, but also of His presence in our own lives.

When we read with a curious and open heart, in faith believing, we will experience His presence in His words!

5. Christmas Bible Reading Helps Us Enter Into The Larger Story Of Life

At first glance, it may not seem like the Christmas Story has much to do with our lives here and now.

Yet, as we ponder the Words, we gain new revelation and grow deeper in our understanding of this miraculous event!

We begin to understand at deeper levels what it means for our life.

And we begin to see our place in the larger story of Christ’s birth.

We notice that the Christmas event changed the world and can change our lives too!

The timeless truths that were true 2,000 years ago are also true today.

How to Grow Spiritually through the Christmas Bible Reading Plan

Below are short daily readings from Christmas Bible verses for each day.

Special Instructions for Maximum Spiritual Growth:

Find a few minutes of quiet time and read one section each day.

For this time, simply focus on the words of a few verses and ask the Lord about them.

It may be helpful to write your thoughts and prayers down in a notebook or journal.

At the Beginning Consider These These Questions:

  1. First, ask, “Lord would you show me something fresh and new today from Your Word today?
  2. What would you say to me today from this?” Imagine how the people felt. Consider their culture.
  3. Ask, “Lord, what does this mean to me right now?” When you ask in curious faith, you will be surprised by what comes to your mind. One of the ways the Lord speaks to us is through spontaneous thoughts to our minds.

This should give you plenty to help keep you full of God’s word through the season. Blessings on your faith journey!

Christmas Bible Verses

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 1  –  John 1:1-5

1. In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 2  –  Isaiah 9:2-7

2The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them.

3 You shall multiply the nation,
You shall increase their gladness;
They will be glad in Your presence
As with the gladness of harvest,
As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

4 For You shall break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders,
The rod of their oppressor, as at the battle of Midian.

5 For every boot of the booted warrior in the battle tumult,
And cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire.

6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 3  –  Isaiah 11:1-10

1 Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,
And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength,
the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

3 And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,
And He will not judge by what His eyes see,
Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;

4 But with righteousness He will judge the poor, and decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; and He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

5 Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins,
And faithfulness the belt about His waist.

6 And the wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little boy will lead them.

7 Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.

9 They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.

10 Then in that day
The nations will resort to the root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a signal for the peoples;
And His resting place will be glorious.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 4  –  Jeremiah 33:14-16

14 ‘Behold, days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah.

15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth.

16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell in safety; and this is the name by which she will be called: the Lord is our righteousness.’

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 5  –  Luke 1:5-10

5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

6 They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

8 Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

9 according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

10 And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 6 –  Luke 1:11-17

11 And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

12 Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

14 You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

16 And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

17 It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 7 –  Luke 1:18-25

18 Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

19 The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

20 And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

21 The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

22 But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

23 When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

24 After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

25 “This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 8 –  Luke 1:26-38

26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28 And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

29 But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

36 And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”

38 And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 9  –  Matthew 1:18-21

The Birth of Jesus

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.

19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.

20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

21 She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 10 – Matthew 1:22-26

22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:

23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”

24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife,

25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 11 – Luke 1:39-45

Mary Visits Elizabeth

39 Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

40 and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

42 And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

43 And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 12 – Luke 1:46-56

The Magnificat

46 And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 “For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave;
For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

49 “For the Mighty One has done great things for me;
And holy is His name.
50 “And His mercy is upon generation after generation
Toward those who fear Him.
51 “He has done mighty deeds with His arm;
He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.
52 “He has brought down rulers from their thrones,
And has exalted those who were humble.

53 “He has filled the hungry with good things;
And sent away the rich empty-handed.
54 “He has given help to Israel His servant,
In remembrance of His mercy,
55 As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

56 And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 13 – Luke 2:1-5

Jesus’ Birth in Bethlehem

Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth.

This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.

And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 14 – Luke 2:6-7

While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.

And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 15 – Luke 2:8-12

The Shepherds

In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.

And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.

10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;

11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 16 – Luke 2:13-14

13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 17 – Luke 2:15-18

15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another,

“Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”

16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.

17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.

18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 18 – Luke 2:19-20

19 But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.

20 The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 19 – Micah 5:2-5

“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little to be among the clans of Judah,
From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
His goings forth are from long ago,
From the days of eternity.”

Therefore He will give them up until the time
When she who is in labor has borne a child.
Then the remainder of His brethren
Will return to the sons of Israel.

And He will arise and shepherd His flock
In the strength of the Lord,
In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God.
And they will remain,
Because at that time He will be great
To the ends of the earth.

This One will be our peace.
When the Assyrian invades our land,
When he tramples on our citadels,
Then we will raise against him
Seven shepherds and eight leaders of men.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 20 – Matthew 2:1-2

The Visit of the Magi

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,

“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 21 – Matthew 2:3-6

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.

They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:

‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah;
For out of you shall come forth a Ruler
Who will shepherd My people Israel.’”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 22 – Matthew 2:7-8

Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.

And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him.”

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 23 – Matthew 2:9-12

After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was.

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

11 After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

12 And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.

Christmas Bible Reading Plan: December 24 – John 1:14

The Word Made Flesh

14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
