Faith's Power to Move Mountains Even When You Feel Small

Faith to Move Mountains When You Feel Small

Be inspired in faith to move mountains, even if you feel small or buried under mountains of muck.

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

“If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.” ~ Napolian Hill

Tiny ants streamed across the asphalt driveway I was walking through. Their tiny holes dotted a line across the road. Along the ant path, weeds had sprouted. It looked as if those tiny little ants and weeds would literally cut the road in half if left alone.

As it turns out, asphalt (and concrete too) contains microscopic cracks invisible to the naked eye. So, tiny seeds carried by ants or water can sprout and push their way through those tiny cracks to the top and split asphalt or concrete!

Exponential Growth from the Smallest Seed

Jesus teaches that the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, the proverbial smallest of seeds, which when planted becomes the largest bush/tree in the garden. When grown, it provides shelter and shade for birds and other creatures (Matt 13:31).

Jesus’ parable illustrates a kingdom principle:

The smallest of things, when planted and grown, become more than we can possibly imagine! They become large enough to bless us and those around us!

This is how the kingdom of heaven works in our lives, yours and mine!

When we act on even the smallest amount of faith, amazing fruit comes forth. We can grow faith to move mountains.

The Principle of Exponential Growth

However, we must remember the mustard tree doesn’t grow big overnight. It is planted and time passes.

There are days of drought and days of floods.

Some days the wind beats on the tiny plant until one day we notice birds lodging in its branches.

One day we notice the small thing has become the big thing.

The thing of no consequence has become the main thing!

The carpenter’s son from Nazareth is now known as the Son of God. That guy who ate locusts in the wilderness is now known as a prophet. The crusty fisherman is preaching with power. The woman known at the well has become an evangelist.

One day we will see the small work begun with the 12 disciples carried to every part of the world.

The Power of Micro Faith

If we only have faith the size of a mustard seed, we can say to our mountains to be removed, and they will obey. When we hear that we think our mountainous circumstances are simply too big to climb, much less move.

However, all you need is micro faith—a small seed of faith, as small as those tiny ants that I saw breaking up the asphalt, then you can do great things with small consistent actions every day!

We simply begin with what we have and it grows into the faith that can move mountains.

The daily prayers you pray for your children will not be forgotten. The kind things you do for your neighbors will reap a great reward.

The Words of God you ponder in your heart every morning are building a strong tree inside you. You may not think these things are very large, but they are in fact fulfilling the principles of the kingdom of heaven. The tree that is planted by the streams of water does not wither, it prospers and yields fruit in its season.[1]

It may not happen overnight, but it will happen!

Example of Exponential Faith to Move Mountains

Faith to Move Mountains

My granny loved the Lord with all her heart. She had six kids and an overbearing husband who never allowed her to drive. She seemed limited in what she could do for the Lord, but she continued to do small things.

Much of her time was spent encouraging people on the telephone. She sent food to others, and sweetly ministered to every salesperson who came to her house.

In her tiny little town with her tiny little life, all her tiny little actions through the years built up into a large memorial for the kingdom of heaven.

Her small, inspired acts of kindness broke down walls between people and strongholds of the enemy. At her funeral people came from near and far to celebrate the little old woman who had impacted their lives for the kingdom of heaven.

Breakthrough Faith Principles To Move Mountains

Whatever the situation you may be in right now, you too can participate with the Holy Spirit to break through the asphalt covering your seeds.

The smallest bit of faith can move the very thing that would hold you back. The tiniest faith can grow as you exercise it every day by doing the next small thing.

It is a spiritual principle in the kingdom of God that small things can grow exponentially larger than we are able to think or imagine.

Believe in the power of the seed. What may not look like much to the world could be the very thing to fulfill all God’s promises for your life.

If you feel like your influence is too small or your life too insignificant to make a difference in the world, think of the tiny ants.

Those tiny ants with their continuous small actions every day were moving their mountains! And you can too!

Emily Dickinson once said, “If you take care of the small things, the big things take care of themselves.”

Action Steps for Faith to Move Your Mountains:

  • Ask God what the next step is in your situation. (Learn to hear His voice better here.)
  • Put your life/situation in God’s care and ask Him to give you strategies to grow.
  • Ask for strategies to break through the asphalt covering your growth.
  • What small thing would make you happy today? Someone else happy?
  • What small thing would bring kindness your life or a neighbor’s life?
  • What little thing can you do today that would have great results later? Begin today!
  • What little things in your life are really the big things?

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you`ll look back and realize they were the big things.” ~ Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

“If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you!” (Matthew 17:20).
