Can You See the Miraculous? All the Miracles Around Jesus’ Birth

See the miracles around Jesus’ birth and see how God brings layers of miraculous events together to work His purposes then and now.

Miracles and wonder. Even now the Christmas season is associated with miracles and wonder.

If we have eyes to see, we can see many miraculous things during this season, because it all began with the greatest miracle ever witnessed.

I am amazed by the mass number of miraculous events in the lives of everyday real people in the Christmas story.

There are the obvious miracles surrounding Jesus’ birth we read about. Then there are miracles that are not explicitly spelled out. But when you think about the circumstances, they are astounding.

Think about the nine-month pregnant Mary riding 70–80 miles on a donkey. Woooaaah.

Some of the miracles listed below are a reminder that God brings layers of events in line with His purposes and plans on earth, and He will do the same in your life.

Here we go.

Miracles of Alignment in Jesus’ Birth

God aligned all the elements of culture, government, economics, and environment to converge at a predetermined time (Gal. 4:4).

Consider these miracles around Jesus’ birth:

  • There was already a prophetic Messianic expectation throughout the land, and the Jews were already looking for a deliverer to deliver them from the Roman government.
  • The Roman government ordered a census of people and property, which forced people to return to their city of origin. This set in motion additional events for Mary and Joseph that would cause prophecies to be fulfilled.
  • People of all nations recognized the sign in the sky. The wise men, possibly from Persia or southern Arabia, made a long inconvenient journey to seek out the king and worship him.

The Miracle of John

  • The angel (Gabriel who stands in the presence of God) appeared to Zacharias to announce they were going to have a son, who would be filled with the Holy Spirit while in his mother’s womb. He was to be a forerunner in the spirit and power of Elijah.
  • Elizabeth and Zacharias were old and without children, but Elizabeth miraculously became pregnant a short time after the angel’s visit.
  • An astonishing angel of God shows himself to Zacharias, and Zacharias doubts the angels’ word. Amazing. Zacharias’ speech was taken away until John was born because of his unbelief. The fear of God came on all those in his community.

The Miraculous Concerning Mary and Joseph

  • The angel, Gabriel, was also sent to Mary to announce that she was favored and chosen to bear the Son of God. Mary not only believed but agreed with God’s plan, “May it be done to me according to your Word.”
  • When it became evident Mary was miraculously pregnant, Joseph began to worry what to do. But not to worry, an angel appeared to confirm God’s plan and give instructions regarding the baby.
  • The heavenly guided the earthly. The place, time, and circumstances of Jesus’ birth were miraculous. Christ’s birth was in the exact town prophesied approximately 700 years before.

The Miracle of the Shepherds

  • An angel suddenly appeared before shepherds (common laborers)  in the fields nearby in Bethlehem to announce the birth of a King.
  • Then suddenly with the angel, there also appeared a multitude of the heavenly host praising God.
  • After witnessing the marvelous site, the shepherds went to Bethlehem in search of the Savior. All who heard their story marveled.

The Miraculous Travels of The Magi

  • The Magi were Gentiles, high-ranking foreign men of wealth, power, and wisdom knew the 600–700-year-old Hebrew Scriptures and prophecies about a coming king.
  • They saw “his” star and were lead on a path for perhaps two years to seek him out and worship Him.
  • There were not only three, but a group of Magi, in fact so many that the evil Herod became fearful.
  • The star in the sky miraculously “led” them all the way from Persia or southern Arabia to the baby in Bethlehem.
  • When political and religious leaders did not recognize Him, others did. The Magi recognized the babe as Christ and gave treasures to the King.
  • God warned the Magi in a dream not to return to Herod.

The Miracles around Jesus’ Birth Continued

  • An angel appeared to Joseph warning him to go to Egypt to escape the evil King Herod’s sword.
  • Then an angel appeared to Joseph with direction to leave Egypt and go to Israel. Then God warned Joseph again in a dream not to settle in Judea, so they settled in Nazareth, fulfilling other prophecies.

Conclusion
