Introduction

Life is full of ups and downs. We go through good and bad times, happy and sad moments.

Whether you are going through a difficult time or just need a little extra help getting through life, these prayers will encourage you to have hope in God.

Of course, there are prayers of all kinds. But, below I have given you some suggested words to start with after offering a word of thanks or praise, and they could be considered one long prayer. Take a look, and I trust you are blessed!

With God’s help, renewed hope, and strength, we can face any challenge life throws our way.

Prayer for Hope and Strength

Heavenly Father, I come before your throne of grace today because I need hope.

Sometimes I feel weak and hopeless, and things look dark. Sometimes it gets hard to keep trying. I pray you will fill me with hope, joy, and peace by the Holy Spirit. I pray you will shine your light into all the dark areas of my life and bring healing and encouragement.

Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find.”

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 4:16 Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.

Thank you, Lord, for Your goodness and mercy to me. I rejoice that my name is written in the Book of Life and Your plans for me are good. I love that you have plans to prosper me with hope and a bright future.

Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jer 29:11 NIV).

Prayer for Faith, Love, Hope and Strength

Lord, I know these troubles will not last forever and that your good plans will ultimately prevail. I ask for Your faith, hope, love, and strength to fill my heart today. Hope does not disappoint, so I continue to trust you for Your good plans coming to pass in my life. I look forward to the day my dreams and your promises come to pass!

Romans 5:5 And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us (NASB).

Proverbs 13:12 When hope’s dream seems to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing. But when at last your dream comes true, life’s sweetness will satisfy your soul” (TPT).

Proverbs 14:32 But the righteous have hope and confidence and a refuge [with God] even in death (Prov 14:32 AMP).

Prayer Affirmation that God is Faithful

Lord, I long to see you move in my situation! My soul longs to hear you and feel you. Have mercy on me and my situation. I wait for you hoping to see your works.

I wait expectantly to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, and continue to watch for you and trust that you meet all my needs in ways that are abundantly above all I can ask or even imagine. Thank you God for being faithful, merciful, and kind.

Psalm 130:6 My soul waits in hope for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning; Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.

Isaiah 49:23 Those who hopefully wait for Me will not be put to shame.

Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (NKJV).

Prayer for Faith and Patience in Hope

Lord God, at times, it can be hard not to lose hope. The struggles seem insurmountable, and the darkness seems to reign supreme. However, I trust in Your grace to find hope and strength.

Abraham was tempted to give up, but He hoped even when there seemed like no hope was left. Others too have experienced difficult times, and God brought them through.

You prospered Abraham and was faithful, so I trust You to bring me through as well.

Romans 4:18 In hope against hope he [Abraham] believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken.

Hebrews 10:23 Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen.

Isa 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord, Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint (NKJV).

Prayer for Understanding

The hardest part of any traumatic circumstance is trying to make sense of it. You may be trying to take in all the information, figure out why it happened, who is responsible, and how you’re going to move forward.

No matter how much you want to, you may not be able to understand it this side of heaven. But God understands and will work out even the awful things so they will benefit you in the end.

Dear Lord, I ask for help, understanding, and strength to put my circumstances in your hands. I trust you to take good care of me, your child. And I trust that vengeance is yours, and you will work all things together for my good.

I forgive those who have wronged me; I release them into your capable hands to take care of for me. Have forgiveness on me for any areas where my heart was not pure, and pray you have compassion on me and my family. I pray blessings on those who have hurt and disappointed me.

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose (NASB).

Luke 6:28 Bless those who curse you, pray for those who are abusive to you.

Prayer For Guidance, Hope and Strength

I pray for hope and strength to get through a difficult time. Help me to see the world through your hope and intentions. I ask for Your help to guide me in navigating this current situation.

Also, I remember others are hurting around me too. I pray you heal their pain and fill them with hope and joy. Use me as an instrument of Your love and hope.

We are all in this together, and we find hope and strength in You, Oh Lord.

I thank you for all these things! In Jesus Name! Amen.

Romans 8:37 We are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

A practical list of things that will help you have hope in the Lord:

  1. Remember good things from your past and be thankful.
  2. Remember how God has brought you through previous tough times. David probably thought about how God delivered him from the lion, the bear, and Goliath.
  3. Think about things that could have happened but didn’t. Remind yourself who your God is to you.
  4. Stand up on the inside. In the Psalms, we see David poured out his soul. Take some time away to pour out your soul to God and praise the only One who can bring victory to your life. You can hope in the Lord!
  5. Think about what kinds of things bring you peace? What kinds of things keep you upset and on edge? You can learn how to recognize God’s work in your life by knowing how he shows up in your daily life. He brings peace, love, and joy. Anything else is not God. So, begin to think about the things that bring peace to your heart.
  6. Cultivate a more peaceful life. Go out into nature and take time to observe the little things. Notice God’s beauty. Be thankful. Notice the encouraging, hopeful things.
  7. Ask God for encouragement. Every time I have asked God for encouragement, within a day or two He has sent encouragement in some way.
  8. Be patient with yourself.
  9. Know that God is good whether we see it at the moment or not.
  10. Be thankful for the good in your life.
  11. Take some time to rest. Many times all we need is a good rest to regain our hope and strength.
  12. Step outside and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation in nature. Take a deep breath and relax. Try to notice something beautiful in nature.
  13. Take some time to really connect with God.
  14. Take time for yourself. Treat yourself to something nice.
  15. Express gratitude for what you have, even if it’s not much.
  16. Spend some time with family or friends
  17. Decide you are not going to give up, no matter the circumstances.
  18. Continue to go about daily life with an expectant attitude.

God uses many ways to answer our questions. Continue to hope in the Lord. He will answer one way or another, at one time or another.
