Spiritual Growth: Can You Carry What God Wants to Give You?

[God has an amazing assignment for each of us here and now, and we may need to refocus our spiritual life so that we can carry it full term.]

One morning, while visiting my daughter, I was startled awake from a dream.

I saw this sentence unfolding word by word visually and audibly. The words pounded and reverberated in my head,

“If I place more power upon My church, she has to be able to carry it.”

The words penetrated my heart as I was overcome by His presence. I wept for the church and for my Lord.

My daughter was just home from the hospital after giving birth to her first child.

And I thought about how not all women carry their baby full term and how a great number of things can abort the precious gift from God before the time to deliver.

God wants to pour out His power in a greater measure, and the church is not able to carry such power. He wants to give us new assignments and gifts to accomplish his purposes in this time in history, right here and right now.

What does it mean for us to carry the power of God?

I thought about the state of the church, the spiritual immaturity of so many, the lack of sincere devotion, the lack of passion, and even the lack of integrity. We may need to refocus our spiritual life to be able to carry the power of God to the hurting and broken people in our lives.

The truth is many of us are not very strong Christians.

Can we carry to full term the assignment God wants to give us?

Many of us are not able to stand up under pressure. We pander after the approval of others. Our armor is flimsy–if we carry armor at all.

Our faith is small.

We are weak in the power of the Spirit; we are weak in the Bible; and we do not understand God or His ways.

We are embarrassed to pray in public, and we do not pray in private.

We do not recognize when God’s hand is doing something new in our lives, and we complain about the change. We are ungrateful and selfish.

We are petty and jealous of one another. We look to build personal platforms over teams of disciples.

Each and every believer has gifts, callings, and assignments in the kingdom of God, many of which have never been discovered.

You have special gifts and callings for the world!

We each have spiritual assignments from God, and we must be strong enough to birth them and carry them to the rest of the world.

The statement kept going over in my head,

“If I place more power upon My church, she has to be able to carry it.”

Refocus your spiritual lifeFurthermore, one of the largest hindrances to growing into maturity in Christ is when we discover and develop God’s gifts without developing character and integrity.

It is possible to discover and grow our gifts without growing in integrity.

Certain gifts are more prone to misuse than others, such as, the entrepreneurial gifts, administrative and finance gifts, leadership gifts, speaking and performance arts gifts, and gifts of healing, miracles, and prophecy.

Therefore, accountability and humility must grow simultaneously as we grow in our talents and gifts. These should grow toward maturity together.

Otherwise, at some point weakness in our character will become fodder for the evil one. The lack of integrity will overpower the good of the gift.

Many good people—moms, dads, teachers, preachers, musicians, business people, leaders of all sorts, etc.— have fallen into this trap of the enemy. It may be time to refocus our spiritual life.

We often cry out to God for more of His power, and gifts, and blessings.

But I wonder if the reason we do not see more of His power is that our personal spirit and character is not strong enough to carry more.

It is said of John the Baptist that he grew strong in spirit and dwelt in the desert until the time came for him to appear publicly in Israel.

Never despise time in the wilderness season. It is the time to draw close in prayer and the Word. It is the time to grow strong in the Spirit and “get honest” with our self. It is time to confront our integrity and character issues.

So, repent and be healed dear child of God. If you need help, get help! God has given humanity gifts of grace in professional counselors, pastors, and prayer ministers. Ask God to lead you to the help you need.

John the Baptist was able to carry his calling, and Scripture says the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John the Baptist (Matt 11:11).

There are multitudes upon multitudes of people in our world today who wonder if there are any truly authentic Christians left in the world.

They want to believe Jesus Christ is real to you, so they can believe for themselves.

So, it’s time for the bride of Christ to learn to carry this thing, for there is much to do in the great harvest that is upon us now! Hallelujah!

Can you carry to what God wants to give you?

We may need to refocus our spiritual life to carry God’s assignment full term.

God bless you on your faith journey!
