3 Quick Thoughts On The Miracle Wine At Cana

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.

When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.

1. Isn’t that just like a mom to push you into what she knows you can do, when there is a need and you think you are not ready yet. He was ready, and she knew it. Ha.

It is great to have friends/family/mentors that can see things in us. If you don’t have someone like this in your life seek them out. They give us encouragement and a little nudge in the right direction once in a while.

2. The community got a miracle because of Mary’s relationship with Jesus, and her insistence. This matter-of-fact kind of faith/knowledge that “it will be done” only comes because of relationship and previous experience.

All the people in your sphere of influence need you to have intimate faith in Jesus. Your relationship with Jesus will make a difference in their lives, as well as, your own.

3. There were six, thirty-gallon waterpots (the size of those big black garbage cans) that the religious Pharisees used for the ceremonial ritual of hand washing. Jesus told the servants to fill them to the brim, and he turned the ritual water into new wine.

I think it is so hilariously symbolic that Jesus brought “new life” to the “religious.” The stone containers filled with plain “water” were now filled to the brim with the “best of the best!” Just like Jesus brings new, living abundant water to transform our old hearts of stone! When Jesus shows up it will mess with the “religious” mind. Ha!
