Place of divine favor and provision

5 Spiritual Principles for Divine Favor & Provision

Find your place of divine favor and provision!

During Elijah’s time, the nation of Israel continued to deteriorate into moral debauchery.

Leaders led the nation in ways opposite God’s laws and principles so that even if people did believe in God, they did not trust in God.

They sacrificed their babies to a false narrative and lived in dependence on human kings rather than God.

After years of moral decline, Elijah confronted King Ahab and pronounced a judgment of drought with the hope that people would come to their senses and repent for allowing unrighteousness to reign in their land.

During this national time of drought and famine, God told Elijah to leave Israel and go to the brook, Cherith.

In this place of obedience, God sent ravens to bring bread and meat in the morning and evening.

He drank from the brook, and all he needed was provided in this particular place of obedience for his entire stay.

After some time, the brook dried up, and God told Elijah to go to Zarepath, and a widow would provide for him there.

Again, Elijah obeyed and followed where God was leading Him.

1. God Has a Place of Divine Provision and Favor for You

God can speak generally to a nation or people and also specifically to you individually. Even when the nation of Israel was under a time of drought and famine, God had a specific plan for Elijah.

And He has a specific plan for you too!

These are times of uncertainty for us all. We face fears about our finances, future, and family.

However, for the people of God, there is a place of divine favor and provision for each of us.

From the earliest times, our Creator Father put Adam and Eve in an abundant place of rest, security, provision, divine purpose, and favor in the Garden of Eden.

He has a specific Garden place for each of us today as well.

In that place of faith and obedience, He has everything we need for the times we are in and the times ahead.

You probably remember the miracle of how the widow in Zarephath was on the verge of starvation. But by faith and obedience God caused her provision to continually multiply. She never ran out!

The widow’s supply miraculously multiplied, the loaves and fishes miraculously multiplied, and He can cause your supply to miraculously multiply as well!

Are You Stuck?

Sometimes we can get stuck in a place (physically or spiritually) where the brook has dried up. We feel dry and hindered.

We lack the effervescent life Jesus came to provide. We can lack provision or purpose.

We may need a change or interruption of some kind to help us get unstuck.

God interrupted Elijah’s life to send him to announce a drought to Ahab, then again to send him to the brook, and again sent him to the widow.

Time and again God interrupted Elijah’s life with a new assignment and new directions.

Elijah was aware of God’s voice and followed by faith.

His place of divine favor and provision changed, and each new assignment brought new levels of faith and miracles.

This year has been a season of interruption and transition for all of us in many ways. Life as we know it has changed.

Instead of looking at this year as a horrible year, maybe we can look to see what God is doing.

We can be open to new transitions and assignments. Maybe God wants to lead you into deeper levels of faith. Can you believe God for something new and different?

As a child of God, we can hear Him speak to us. We can follow His leading as Elijah did and find our place of divine favor.

If we are willing, God will lead us step by step into a place of abundance in every area—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. He wants to give us an amazing life of fulfilling purpose.

We may have to confront our old ways of doing things, our fears, our traditions, and even our family to move forward in God’s timing and ways.

We will probably have to change something! What are you willing to do?

Therefore, make sure you are in a place of listening, faith, and obedience.

2. Even in God’s Perfect Will Things May Not Go Smoothly

Do not be dismayed if you are in the perfect will of God and still face obstacles. I know this is hard to hear.

But look at Elijah. He was obeying God in faith. Things were going well with his new assignment, and then the widow’s son dies.

The widow could have thought, “You pronounce drought on the land, now my only son has died. I don’t know if I want you in my house. What’s going to happen next?”

The situation seemed hopeless.

3. Through seemingly insurmountable obstacles, we stretch our faith to trust God for more.

Through crazy obstacles, we stretch our faith to believe in God’s abundant ability and provision.

We learn to trust Him in different ways than we trusted Him before. We learn to trust Him for more. Even Elijah’s faith was stretched here.

Elijah persistently prayed for the boy three times and the boy’s life returned.

The miracle of the widow of Zarephath’s son is the first miracle in Scripture of one raising the dead.

4. We learn to look for God’s unconventional ways of divine provision.

All through the Bible, we see God use, what would seem to us, unconventional methods to provide for His people.

Just think of how God provided manna in the wilderness for millions of people; and how from one little boy’s lunch of five barley loaves and two fish Jesus provided lunch for 5,000 men.

They had more leftover than when they began.

In talking about God’s unconventional provision, remember how Mary, the mother of Jesus was nine months pregnant and had to go to Jerusalem for the census. Even as she carried the son of God in her womb, it looked like there was no provision for her.

I remember what I felt like at nine months pregnant. I was tired, big, and uncomfortable. I wanted my house ready, my baby’s room ready, and the doctor on call. At nine months, a road trip in a car is hard. But Mary had a donkey.

When she finally got to Jerusalem, with contractions about to begin, there was no place to stay.

And she was right in the perfect will of God!

God provides all we need, but sometimes it looks different than what we expect.

5. We Learn Greater Trust From Our Divine Place of Favor

God is more concerned with our relationship and spiritual growth than anything else in our lives.

He wants us to learn to trust Him more and more. He wants us to lean on Him and watch for what He is doing and where He is providing.

As we obey Him step by step, we will learn to trust Him in greater ways for rest, security, purpose, and provision from the Garden place of divine favor.

Action Steps

In conclusion, God is always moving and always speaking. Our problem is we don’t always take time to see and hear.

Take a moment now to ask God what He would speak to you about all of this.

1. Ask God, “What do you want to say to me today?” Ask, “Am I in the right place physically? Spiritually?” “Lord help me to see what you are doing even if it looks unconventional.”

2. Ask yourself, “Am I believing for the more God has for me? Am I looking to see where and how God is working in my life right now?” “Am I being stretched to believe for a hard thing?”

3. Expectantly listen for words or thoughts that come spontaneously to your mind. Stay aware of ideas or even a faint picture that may come to your mind. These are some of the ways God speaks to our hearts.

God may show you new directions, or He may confirm you are in the right place and path. He may show you a few tweaks to your attitude or actions.

He may give you strategies for more provision. Be open to hearing what He would say today. He will lead you to your place of divine favor and provision!
